New Delhi: IndiGo, Air India Express, Air India and Akasa Air on Tuesday announced they would cancel or suspend flights to several Saudi Arabian cities until October 17 amid the region's evolving security situation.

Saudi Arabia has witnessed attacks from Yemen’s Houthis in recent days, including at Riyadh airport, disrupting flight operations.

In a post on X on Tuesday, IndiGo said flights to and from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah would remain cancelled until October 17, citing the evolving situation in Saudi Arabia.

Air India Express said it had cancelled flights to and from Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh until October 17. It added that affected passengers could reschedule their journeys without additional charges or opt for a full refund.

Air India also announced the cancellation of flights to and from Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah until October 17. The airline said it was closely monitoring developments and assessing the situation to resume safe operations. It is offering full refunds to affected passengers who choose to cancel their bookings.

Akasa Air said it had extended the suspension of all flights to and from Riyadh and Jeddah until October 17, citing the escalating security situation and the associated risks to safe flight operations.

The airline said the decision followed an assessment of the evolving situation, adding that it was monitoring developments in real time, with passenger and crew safety remaining its priority.

Last week, airlines had temporarily suspended services to Riyadh following reported attacks at the city’s airport attributed to Houthi militants.

The hostilities involving the Iran-backed Houthi group and Saudi Arabia have escalated, with attacks involving missiles and armed drones. The security situation has disrupted air travel, prompting airlines to extend cancellations and reassess operations.
